Happy memories and friendships that stood the test of time

Updated: Mar 30

Parent and OSA (Old St Andrew's pupil), Natassia Papierowski, joined Nursery in 1993 and stayed at St Andrew's until the end of Year 8. Mum to Elodie and Louis, Natassia currently works at Databricks as a Senior Program Manager in Legal Operations. Here, she shares how happy she was to join older brother, James (four years above her), which St Andrew's teacher inspired her the most, and reveals her all-time favourite school meal.

Which Section (house) were you in at St Andrew's?

Red section, now known as Rainsford.

Sum up your time at St Andrew’s in one sentence.

It was a chapter of my life filled with happy memories, and where I made friendships that have stood the test of time.

Favourite school meal?

I always enjoyed breakfast at school after a night of boarding, but my absolute favourite menu item had to be bird seed and custard.

Who was your most inspirational teacher or subject at St Andrew’s, and why? History was my most inspirational subject, thanks to Mr. Embury, who made every lesson incredibly engaging and certainly entertaining. I have fond memories of laughing through his classes, and I still recall his vivid lessons on the Black Death with perhaps a little too much clarity!

What was your favourite game in Progressive Games?

Progressive Games were always an annual highlight. The electric wire loop game was one of the best challenges on the circuit, and famously hard to beat(!).

What is the most important lesson that you learnt at St Andrew’s?

The most important lesson I learned at St Andrew’s was to always do my best and to be conscientious. I also learned the value of having fun and the importance of celebrating the achievements of others.

Did you have a favourite rest activity?

I loved exploring the woods and going on make believe adventures with my friends at breaktime.

Proudest moment?

Conquering stage fright during a music competition. I sang my first solo, 'Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man,' and received a standing ovation. My confidence in public speaking took root that day.

Finally, what piece of advice would you give your 13 year old self?

Embrace the changes and new experiences to come. Just focus on being yourself, work hard, and do your best, but never forget to have fun along the way.
